Cannon Financial Strategists, Inc. is a fee-based financial planning firm offering internships during the Spring, Summer and Fall semesters at our office on Milledge Avenue. During this internship, individuals partake in everyday activities of the firm as well as see first-hand Cannon’s role in consulting, retirement planning, administration, communication, and Registered Investment Advisor services that help employers and employees. The internships begin the third week of each semester and last approximately 8 weeks. Schedules are flexible and interns are expected be available approximately 10 hours a week. Class credit is also available for individuals looking to complete FHCE 5910 (UGA internship class).
Internship Duties and Activities:
- Assist in building comprehensive financial plans for clients
- Have an opportunity to sit in on client meetings with advisors
- Observe and assist advisors in their day-to-day activities
- Practice doing financial research questions
- Gain experience using Morningstar Office, Redtail, and other planning tools
- Write financial plan covers and executive summaries
- Analyze client retirement portfolios
The Ideal Candidate:
- Financial Planning Major
- Completed or currently enrolled in:
- FHCE 4230 – Family Tax Planning
- FHCE 4200 – Wealth Management I
- FHCE 4210 – Retirement Planning and Employee Benefits
- Junior or Senior
- Future interest working for a Fee-Only RIA in Georgia
- Double Dawg in Financial Planning
- SFPA Leadership Experience
- VITA and/or Aspire Clinic Experience
Cannon Financial Planning Internships
Cannon internships are typically extremely competitive. Although we often receive 30+ qualified applicants per semester, we generally only take 1 or 2 interns. The selection process involves an online submission (below) then a series of short interviews to ensure fit.
